Friends

My lovely friend, Beryl, died of Coronavirus on 30 March.  It was such a shock when Chris rang to tell me.  Lock down restrictions meant I was not able to attend the funeral.  I shall miss her a lot - we had been friends for over 40 years.  I shall meet up with the other ladies who make up the Christmas lunch group for a memorial lunch when all this madness is over.

Here's a couple of photos of us on holiday circa 1986

Muffie kept me entertained with jokes, interesting videos (see Amusements page), and a daily update on the life of goslings at Shortwood Common where she and Pete went for their walks.

Maryanne organised regular Zoom meetings for those of us who walk regularly with her, which were fun.  Interesting to see how we were all keeping occupied and fit.

Tarts - Kate finally earned her bronze award by managing to arrange a Zoom get together for Aces HC players of a certain vintage, although she had to leave the meeting early!  It was the first time we had met for a couple of years - an attempt to meet for supper earlier in the year had been postponed.  A bonus was that Nikki in South Africa was able to join us - which wouldn't have been possible if we had gone out to eat.

Lee and Emma kept us updated with photos of the girls growing fast, plus the acquisition of two hens and the building of a coop and run for them.  Lee made himself some weights from concrete and baby formula tins, as the gym was closed!  Emma also sent me lots of photos of Slimming Eats recipes she had tried, which all looked delicious. Once we were allowed to meet with more than one person Jayne and I met up with them in Totnes for a couple of hours.  Neville and Beau were overjoyed to see Suki again - Suki looked slightly less enthusiastic!  It was rather cold so we skipped the picnic, but it was nice to see them again and have a good catch up.

Linda and I swapped daily step counts - at least until she fell while out running, avoiding a pedestrian, and broke her elbow, thus requiring her to be less active for a few weeks. We also swapped highlights of our day.  She sent a very old photo which had popped up on her Facebook account - taken at the end of a QP day on 6 April 2002 8 qps of each of the standard 8 with a qp of 8xspliced to finish.

And on the same theme, Malc sent an old photo he had received from an old friend of ours, Alan, circa 1982

LtoR: John, Me, Lesley, Alan, Malc

And sent me these lovely photos of a baby starling, which had adopted him as its mum, in his garden
